The Dawgs traveled to Chicago to compete against some of the top ranked teams in the country. The team results are as follows: Illinois 403.15, Michigan 402.00, Minnesota 399.80, Iowa 394.8, Washington 370.15, and UIC 357.25.
This competition was covered by ESPN3 live, where the Dawgs were able to show some of their best routines. It was an exciting event with over 1000 spectators!
The Huskies started on vault where everyone hit, earning the highest event score of the season, a 68.5. Senior Jacob Jarrett lead the pack with a 14.05, Senior Michael Sibley 13.85, Senior Ben Fisher 13.45, Team Captain Nathan Tsuji 13.45, and Sophomore Kody Dominguez 13.2 all helped the team score on vault.
Parallel Bars was a strong 63.45 even though not all of the routines were hits. Freshman Connor Pattison had the highest score on the team with a 12.85, with Sophomore Alex May 12.75, Junior Daniel Gordon 12.65, Tsuji 12.65, and Jarrett 12.55 all contributing to the team score. Sibley competed parallel bars as exhibition so his HUGE score of 13.5 wasn’t included in the team score so the Dawgs are excited about their potential on this event!
The Dawgs caught ALL of their releases on the Horizontal Bar! For this to happen so early in the season is very encouraging. The team score 58.55 isn’t the best they’ve achieved, and should improve for their next competition. Tsuji lead the team with a 12.2, with Sophomore Alex Forcos 12.0, Conner Petellin 11.75, Freshman Oscar Hemmert 11.65, and Sibley 10.65 all helping the team score.
Floor is one of the Dawgs stronger events, and even with a few mistakes they scored a 64.25, a slight improvement from their first competition. Tsuji absolutely killed his routine, scoring a 14.0! Gordon 13.0, May 12.8, Dominguez 12.55, and Jarrett 11.9 helped contribute.
The Huskies seemed to struggle on their weakest event, having to count a few falls scoring a 55.45. This is about a five point drop from the WA Open. Gordon 11.85, Tsuji 11.8, Fisher 10.75, Jarrett 10.65, and Freshman Jared Danek 10.4 made up the Dawgs Pommel Score.
Instead of getting down on themselves, the Pack rallied together to come back with some very strong ring routines. They scored a 60,25 as a team with May 12.3, Gordon 12.25, Tsuji 12.0, Sibley 11.95 and Jarrett 11.75 all contributing.
These guys have been working so hard in practice, and while the improvements in their form and focus are not reflected by the overall team score, they are very encourage by the opportunities they’ll have to show their true potential in the upcoming competitions.
GO DAWGS!!!
