Scholarships

The Washington Men’s Gymnastics Foundation (WMGF) is pleased to offer scholarships to current and incoming team members. WMGF budgeted over $40,000 for Scholarships during the 2023 – 2024 competitive season, and is constantly working to increase that amount.  Financial need, gymnastics ability, and academic performance are all factors that determine an applicant’s scholarship award.  There are three different kinds of scholarships available to Washington Men’s Gymnastics team, members, each with slightly different criteria:

    1. Dr. Eric Hughes Endowment Scholarship Applicant must be a current or incoming University  of Washington student.
    2. Washington Men’s Gymnastics Scholarship Applicant can be EITHER a current or incoming University of Washington student, OR a current or incoming student at any nearby Junior/Community College.
    3. In addition to our scholarships, USAG offers the National Gymnastics Foundation Scholarship Program for men in good standing in college or post-secondary education.

“The Dr. Eric Hughes Scholarship was a huge boost toward my goal of making 51% of my expenses. It was money that I did not have to do any additional work for, and was from within Washington State. Without the scholarship, I’m not sure if I would have been able to get in-state tuition. The money always came at a convenient time. After I completed one quarter’s class work, I would receive a check to help pay for the next quarter. The scholarship not only made it easier to pay for school in the year that I received the scholarship, it also made it possible for me to continue to pay for the rest of my education. “

“I had saved up enough money, from a summer job, to put me through one year of college and after that I didn’t know if I could financially afford college.  I had worked out with the team for a few weeks and one evening, at the end of workout, Coach Hughes pulled me aside. He said “I want to put you on the Freshman Squad.” I was elated that I was going to be a Husky Gymnast. Then, not long after that, he pulled me aside again. This time he said “I am going to give you a partial scholarship, which will pay for your tuition.” I knew with the partial scholarship I would be able to complete my college education – without the scholarship it was questionable. I wasn’t the only one that was able to get a college education because of Coach Hughes’ scholarship program.”
