Collegiate Nationals Review

The Dawgs placed 2nd as a team with a 370.7 to the Sun Devils who scored a 393.35.  SoCal United placed 3rd with a 336.5.  The team had some of the cleanest hit routines of the year.  Even with some missed routines and uncharacteristic mistakes, they were able to post their second highest score of the season.

The team started out on pommel horse with only one fall out of the 5 routines.  Senior Carl Meader lead the Dawgs scoring a 12.25 for his last performance as a Husky.

Jacob Jarrett gave one of his best performances on the rings with a stuck dismount.  He scored the highest for the Dawgs on rings with a 13.1.  Ben Bloom also hit a very clean routine and scored a 12.75.

Jacob shined again on the vault with a huge Yurchenko double twist with just a step on the landing scoring a 14.2 and qualifying him into event finals!

Team captain Nathan Tsuji hit a very nice routine on his best event, the parallel bars.  His score (13.30) lead the pack and qualified him into event finals.  Junior Michael Sibley and sophomore Daniel Gordon were not far behind scoring 12.85 and 12.80 respectively.

High bar has been the Huskies weakness as far as difficulty goes, but at this competition they only had one fall out of the five routines.  Sophomore Conner Petellin scored a 12.00, the highest score for the team.

It has been known to be very difficult having floor exercise as the last event at a location such as the Air Force academy, where the air is thin and breathing can be difficult.  This didn’t seem to be an issue for the Huskies this time as the couple of mistakes that were made were not due to lack of energy or breath.  Nathan Tsuji and Ben Bloom scored the highest for the team with a 12.95 and a 12.80.

Senior Nathan Tsuji qualified to the event finals on parallel bars, and junior Jacob Jarrett qualified to finals on rings and vault.  Nathan performed a very nice routine on the parallel bars, and even with a bobble and an upgraded dismount, he brought home a bronze medal scoring a 13.00!  Jacob hit his rings routine and placed 7th with a 12.70.  He then placed 5th on vault with just a step on his Yurchenko double twist scoring a 13.95.

GO DAWGS!!!
