What a year 2020 it was. Going back, I thought that 2020 was going to be our best season yet, but the year had other plans for all of us. Today however, I want to continue looking forward and update you with our latest news for the season 2021.
Yes, the season 2021 will be another unusual one. Many programs, including our own, are still under quarantine protocols and we, in particular, aren’t scheduled to be back in the gym as a full team until Jan 11th. We are a competitive team, but we also know that the measurements adopted to fight the spread of the virus are the right ones. To allow the athletes to remain somehow fit while bridging this time we have been practicing conditioning online through video conference from our own homes plus other several irregular in person workouts for a couple of hours a week. In addition, the self-funded programs from GymACT started several online challenges among our teams to kick off the season in an effort to keep the competitive spirit going. I am happy to inform you that we, Huskies, won 2 out of the 3 contest we competed in. The stick and HS contest on October 30th and on December 19th respectively can be watched online together with all the other challenges GymACT programs participating in by clicking the following word LINK.
USAG Men’s Collegiate Nationals itself has been pushed back 7 weeks and we are now looking at the possibility of hosting it in conjunction with J.O. Nationals on May 15th in Florida. If granted, this will give our college athletes one of the biggest stages men’s gymnastics has to offer in the country. Please stay tune to our meet schedule at www.wmgf.us/schedule/. Many of the dates and format of the meets of this 2021 season are still “to be determined” (TBD) at this point, but it will be updated as soon as we know more.
Your support and energy is what keep us going.
Go Dawgs!
