Coach Mark Russo Receives the “Honor Coach Award”

Our Program Chief and previous Head Coach, Mark Russo was voted by all of his peers to receive the College Gymnastics Association’s “Honor Coach Award” which was first given in 1954. The late Dr. Eric Hughes (founder of Husky Gymnastics) received this same award in 1979. Coach Mark stepped down as head coach after the 2017 season, which gave him over 25 years as the Huskies Head Coach. This award reads as follows: “In recognition of his service in coaching and developing gymnastics for over twenty-five years. He has gained the respect of his associates in the gymnastics world by his inspiring example and accomplishments.” This award was announced at the banquet of this year’s NCAA Championships.
We are so proud of Mark and all that he has done for our program. If it weren’t for Mark’s years of sacrifice and devotion to the team and it’s survival, we would, in all actuality, not be here today. In this case it took one man’s dream to become a self sustaining organization that will only get stronger with time.
